Welcome to Elementary Band at Gatelot and Cayuga!

The instrumental music program at Gatelot and Cayuga begins in the 4th grade.
All students have the opportunity to participate in the 4th grade instrumental program
as either an orchestra student or a band student. The 4th grade band consists of
flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, French horns, trumpets, trombones, baritones,
tubas, and percussion. Currently we have a total of 100 students
in the 4th grade band program.
The instrumental program continues on into the 5th grade. In the 5th grade the
instrumentation of the band expands to include tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, oboe,
and bassoon. Currently we have a total of 70 students in the 5th grade band program.
Lessons
Each 4th grade student will attend one 1/2 hour lesson each. Students are grouped with
like instruments and lesson group sizes range from 4-12 students per group.
Fifth grade students attend one half hour lesson each week. Lessons are scheduled
during the school day.
Rehearsals
Fourth grade band rehearses once a week during school from January to June.
Fifth grade band rehearses twice a week, once in the AM before school
and once during school.
Concerts
Fourth grade presents one assembly concert in June.
Fifth grade presents an evening concert in December and an evening concert in May.
